The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Senior Chief Engineer in overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering department. This role is responsible for maintaining the physical plant, building structure, mechanical/electrical systems, and grounds. In the absence of the Chief Engineer, this position assumes full responsibility for the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily Operations Management
• Supervise and assign daily work orders to shift engineers and technicians.
• Inspect repair work in guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house to ensure high-quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and HVAC system failures.
• Monitor energy consumption and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Preventive Maintenance (PM)
• Execute and track the Preventive Maintenance program for all building equipment and systems.
• Liaise with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance contracts.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, fire regulations, and safety laws.
• Team Leadership & Administration
• Create shift schedules to ensure optimal 24/7 technical coverage.
• Train and mentor junior technicians to improve technical skills and safety standards.
• Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment to prevent shortages.
• Assist the Senior Chief Engineer with annual budgeting and capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning.

Job Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or Vocational Certificate in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience:
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in building utilities or engineering maintenance.
• At least 1–2 years in a supervisory role (e.g., Duty Engineer or Engineering Supervisor).
• Prior experience in hotels, resorts, or high-rise commercial buildings is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficient in MEP systems, HVAC, refrigeration, water treatment, and fire fighting systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other departments.
